Cozy up to January

January brings a new year, a new calendar and new possibilities!  This time of year inspires people to think ahead, set goals, and dream.  And for some, that includes moving!  Relocating a household can seem daunting and stressful, but if certain steps are taken to prepare the home to sell, it will be smooth sailing :)

Staging the home will attract online shoppers, make photos sparkle, bring a quicker home sale, and create bigger profits!  That equals less home selling stress!  So how do you stage a home in the winter?  There are small, subtle things that you can do to create a cozy vibe that buyers will love.

When all else fails, just tell people what you want them to know!  We're not fans of TONS of word letter art for homes that are for sale, but some carefully selected phases are worth it!  Frame this set in some wood frames, and it will cozy up your space.

A fuzzy pillow is the perfect couch accessory for winter!  Note that the link here is for pillow covers only, so you will need an insert (or put an out of season pillow inside!).

A chunky knit blanket screams cozy!  Fold it at the end of a bed, drape it on a chair, or plop it in an open basket by a fireplace - you can't go wrong!

Perfect for stashing warm blankets and throws, it is perfect in a bedroom corner or next to the couch.  

Nothing says settle in and stay awhile like a candle :).  But you don't need to light it during a showing or open house - the intention is good enough!  (Especially with a cute logo!).  

If you want the glow of a candle to really bring the ambiance, then these battery candles will do the trick!  They can be used in any room in the home and can be setup on a timer!  With darker hours through the winter, these are great for showings later in the day.

Light is magical!  Even during the daytime, all lights in the home should be on during showings.  Adding a pair of on-trend lamps to a room brightens a wintery-gloomy space and adds an upscale vibe to a room.  

That's right!  More light!  Make the outside shine by hanging up these lights.  While they may seem like a summertime accessory, they actually are a favorite of ours in the winter because of the shorter daylight hours.  Turn them on and bring the cozy outdoors!

We love using mugs in staging.  Somehow a warm beverage can elicit a smile in the colder months of winter.  And these mugs are perfect for winter staging - they are white (a favorite staging color) and have an embossed detail on them similar to a sweater knit.  We like to pair them in the kitchen on master bedroom on a tray.

Even books are seasonal!  This selection is perfect for winter.  Other ideas: any book by Robert Frost with a neutral colored cover, or a book on favorite snow skiing mountains in Colorado.  It all feels like winter.

Trays are versatile and can be tweaked each season.  For winter coffee table staging, use the tray to display some of those candles, a book, some pinecones and a touch of greenery.  In the pre-Christmas time frame, we will also sometimes display one small Christmas item (a gold reindeer, white tree, etc) to set a subtle holiday tone for the home.
